The WY Forget Me Not Trust

Healthcare & Special Needs
February 2018

A new children’s hospice for the West Yorkshire Forget Me Not Trust, a relaxed place for the care of children with life shortening conditions and their families. Ian was involved from the very start of the process, helping the trust find the land and designing the hospice, all while working for HDP Architects. When Progressive was set up, we were asked to administer the contract to get the hospice built.

More Information

First Impressions

A charity with an amount of money and the desire to build an amazing place, but without a site or any plans for a building.

Objectives

Help to find a suitable site, design a fantastic and relaxing building, and make sure it gets built to an impressive quality.

A welcoming and friendly place with a homely character, nestled into its site at the edge of a wood.

Result

A welcoming and friendly place with a homely character, nestled into its site at the edge of a wood.

Design for Comfort and Relaxation

We divided the building into two halves to reduce its visual impact, and gave it the character of a nice hotel or large house

The two parts of the building create a south facing garden between, with the main areas all looking onto this garden.

A generous room at the heart of the building houses a kitchen, dining and living room.

Specialist Spaces

The Hydrotherapy pool can be blacked out and has multi-sensory lighting and sound.

Glazed screens mean that staff in the reception area and office can see all the way through the building.

There are specialist spaces dotted around the hospice, accessible to all.
