A health club that wanted to create a really inspiring space to practice yoga next to its existing buildings. There was a proposed design by CSP Architects, which was to be taken to the next level.

Objectives

To design a large and complex green oak structure within a simple building, to give a memorable space to practice yoga.

An award winning building consisting of a simple exterior wrapped around a fantastic show piece of a yoga studio.

Result

An award winning building consisting of a simple exterior wrapped around a fantastic show piece of a yoga studio.

Highly Crafted Structure

Every junction of materials has been designed to reinforce the overall impression of craft and care in construction.

Close collaboration with the structural engineer enabled subtle details to be created.

Symmetry and Harmonious Proportions

The symmetry and balance of the structure dominates the space and gives an inspiring place to practice yoga.

 The exterior is also symmetrical.

An Inwardly Focused Building

The users of the building sometimes lie on the floor, and get a great view of the building.

The exterior of the building responds to the existing hall, with reclaimed stone from elsewhere on the same site, and little clue of the interior
